My Background and Approach
Working from a multicultural perspective that employs a Person-centered approach, I am able to gain a holistic perspective of you. Throughout your therapy, we will collaborate as we tend to your inner life; both the light and shadow. I will listen to you closely with care and curiosity, and without judgment. I align closely with Jungian theory and primarily use Psychodynamic Therapy. By helping you find and recognize patterns in your emotions, thoughts, and beliefs, you can gain insight into yourself. I find this approach fosters individuation and integration, allowing for wholeness and becoming the highest version of yourself.
I have a deep interest in utilizing expressive arts as a tool within therapy to aid in self-discovery. I work with adults and teens of varying cultural backgrounds struggling with issues including, but not limited to, LGBTQ+ issues, gender identity issues, body image, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, grief, sexuality, PTSD, and personality disorder.
Why I Became a Therapist
I became a therapist because I felt like I was wasting my innate gifts by continuing down the 20 year long path of a graphic designer in a corporate world. Throughout school as a child, I was severely bullied for being different. It took many years to understand myself, and to understand that people really did love and care about me.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I work to help all that struggle with not only their sexuality, but also their gender. I believe in and support equality for all, and human rights for all. I support Black Lives Matter and am an ally for all BIPOC peoples. I work hard to identify my bias, understand my intersectionality, and do my best to use my position and privilege to benefit those without it.
That said, I am also willing to be called out by someone when a micro-aggression occurs in the course of therapy. They happen, and to pretend they don't means I am part of the problem. I'd much rather be part of the solution and help you thrive.
