My Ideal Client

I work alongside clients as they are grieving the death of a person, grieving the loss of a relationship, grieving a transition in their life, and so much more. My therapy room is often filled with laughter, sarcasm, joy, sadness, trauma, noise, silence, tears, play, and whatever revel we find ourselves in.

My Approach to Helping

I am a professional counselor associate with a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education from Portland State University. My studies centered on anti-racist, anti-bias, and equitable counseling practices. I bring a non-judgmental, trauma-informed, and social justice perspective to therapy, always honoring the belief that clients are the true experts in their own lives. By using a strength-based approach, I aim to support clients in reshaping the personal narratives that may stand in the way of their growth. While in the thick of grief, it may be hard for us to find the power of celebration. One of the goals in my practice is to get to a point where we can find the joy underneath the grief. Through the tears, there will be laughter; there will be happiness; and there will be revel.

My Values as a Therapist

I grew up in Bend, OR with a Mexican-American mom and a white dad. I moved to Portland to attend Lewis and Clark College as a first-generation college student where I received a major in psychology and a minor in gender studies. Upon graduation, I entered into a Master’s of Arts in Teaching where I went on to teach language arts at the secondary level. Early in my career, I realized that I was more drawn to counseling students than the content I was teaching, so I decided to go back to school for my Master’s Degree in Counselor Education. I hold both a school counseling license and a professional counseling associate. Based on my background, I've grown to value collaboration, identity development, and a healthy dose of humor in my therapy space. Through collaboration, I empower my clients to take ownership of their healing processes. By examining the different facets of our identities, I place value on authenticity and resiliency. And all this to say, laughter is always present.
