My Ideal Client

My ideal client is CURIOUS about CHANGE, has some experience already using therapy to grow and wants to collaborate. By collaborate I mean that we actively put our skills and efforts together to discover iwhat works for YOU. I am creative and energetic about helping you make progress (as you define it)--I enjoy those qualities in my clients. I really enjoy working with artists (of all types).

My Approach to Helping

Each individual deserves therapy customized for them; the ‘right therapy’, is the one that empowers you to be the self you long to be; Trust is built on authenticity and honesty—you can expect that your openness will be reciprocated. My other core values include: Confidentiality – I create a safe environment where confidentiality is paramount. Your privacy will always be recognized and protected. Compassion – When you take a risk to disclose your concerns and open your life to a stranger I recognize your courage. I will treat you with respect and care. Equality – Your history and cultural identity is always present and makes you who you are; I will strive to understand your values and will always treat you with equality and dignity. Comprehensive Care – People are multifaceted and embody a variety of experiences and needs whether physical, emotional, mental, intellectual, relational and spiritual needs. My aim is keep all these needs in mind.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have both a Bachelor’s Degree a Master’s Degree (MSW) in social work, and I am licensed as a clinical social worker (LCSW). I have studied mediation and have had years of education at the Summer Institute of Intercultural Communication. More recently, I have acquired skills in the somatic, body-mind area of counseling: NeuroAffective Touch and Rubenfeld Synergy. These methods integrate conscious insights with unconscious discoveries that are communicated by the body when encouraged by awareness and gentle touch. I believe in this powerful type of treatment and see it as an adjunct to regular counseling work. For more information, please visit my web site at http://www.pravdacounseling.com

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

I use Rubenfeld Synergy and Nueroaffective Touch, body-mind therapy methods that uses your body as the starting point, because your body is home to your thoughts, feelings, and your spirit. Touch heightens awareness both physically and emotionally and allows the exploration of levels of self-knowledge that are difficult to access through either talk or touch alone.

  • Eclectic External link

My therapy approach is to use tools from several best practice therapy models, depending on my client’s issues and needs. Such models include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Rubenfeld Synergy, and Mindfulness Based Practices. Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Personal Growth External link
  • Women's Issues External link

One of my central areas of focus over the past twenty years has been the empowerment of women and girls, and I have worked in many nonprofit organizations in the field. Recurring themes with which I have experience include gender dynamics in relationships, power relations between women, and family pressures, particularly on work/family/self development.

  • Domestic Abuse External link

I have worked in the domestic violence field and have extensive training in how relationship violence impacts a person. I also have taught Career Counseling at a community college. I love the excitement of helping people explore their dreams and link them to practical resources, drawing a map for how to get there.

  • Self-Esteem External link

In addition to traditional talk therapy for issues such as self-esteem, I have studied Neuroaffective Touch and Rubenfeld Synergy, forms of treatment that enable clients to listen to the messages of the body and to bring awareness, understanding, relief, and transformation to their lives. This happens through gentle touch and reflective listening in a safe, supportive environment.

  • Loss or Grief External link

I specialize in the immigrant and refugee experience, and have worked for over twenty years as a cultural worker. As a first-generation Russian-American, I am able to understand and help individuals and families with tools to cope with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, acculturation shock, and other issues related to immigration.
