My Ideal Client

I specialize in working with college students, graduate students and early career professionals who are struggling to balance the demands of life. This may look like racing thoughts, low self esteem, being overly hard on yourself, perfectionism or finally crashing and not being able to get out of bed. If you're asking yourself "how am I supposed to balance school/work, having a social life, eating healthy, exercising, having hobbies and taking care of my mental health?!" you are not alone!

How I Can Help You

Adulting is hard, especially when you still feel like you're new to it. You might feel like your thoughts are always negative or spiraling out of control or you're always tense or can't seem to stay in the moment for things that are "supposed" to be fun. My approach to therapy focuses on helping you learn to relax, reduce the impact of negative or anxious thoughts, savor the joyful things in life, and live in alignment with your values. In therapy with me you will learn concrete strategies to improve your life while also having time to just "talk it out" in a warm and supportive environment. I hold doctorate and master's degrees in clinical psychology and am experienced working with students and young professionals to help you learn to struggle less, relax more and make choices that move you toward a better life instead of letting anxiety and perfectionism run the show. I primarily use an evidenced-base type of therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

My Values as a Therapist

As a therapist, I believe that our difficulties do not only stem from "inside" our own brains--they are often a logical reaction to our circumstances. These circumstances might be an unhealthy living situation, too many stressors/responsibilities, a challenging relationship, and/or something broader like racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or other systems of oppression. I believe that the unequal treatment of marginalized peoples in our society often results in chronic stress and psychological suffering. Thus, it is critical to take into account each client's individual life experiences, identities, and experiences of oppression to fully understand what contributes to their psychological suffering. Doing this allows us to work through these experiences, channel our energy toward changing what we can, and find ways to heal and thrive amongst the things we cannot change (at least not right away!).

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Depression External link

Depression can feel like a deep hole that is impossible to crawl out of. Sometimes it can even feel like you've forgotten what its like to not be depressed. This is common and I believe wholeheartedly in your capacity to heal. I will meet you wherever you are in your journey and we will tackle this together.

  • ADHD External link

ADHD can impact each person's life differently. In my experience working with clients with ADHD, the solutions are not one-size-fits-all. I can work with you individually to help you figure out what works for YOU, and help you finally start working with your brain instead of against it. We can tame the chaos together.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is exhausting. Whether you have panic attacks, physical symptoms, constant worry (or all three!), my approach is designed to help you learn to relax, release the constant tension, and gain control back over your life instead of letting anxiety run the show. We will learn together in a safe and understanding environment where you know what to expect.

  • PTSD External link

I utilize a structured and evidenced-based approach to PTSD treatment called Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). This approach involves uncovering and gently challenging core beliefs that may have formed due to past trauma(s). Each session has a particular structure, so you will always know what's coming next. This approach involves some work at home on your part--but generally this is true for any therapy :)
