My Approach to Helping

My approach is described as active and supportive. I work with clients to address current issues and long-standing challenges. Applying sensitivity, empathy and compassion, I help individuals bring resolution to a wide range of life challenges and clinical psychological issues. I work with each client to find the appropriate match for your needs regarding the challenges you are facing. Our work will be active, I ask a lot of questions and we will discuss your answers to help you best help yourself. From time to time I use handouts, online resources and to supplement our work. I utilize an approach of applied empathy to help you feel safe and in time, confident to discuss your concerns. I'm trained in shame resilience, do a lot of assertiveness, cognitive reframing work as well as unpacking life experiences around maternal and menopause journeys as well as grief and loss along the life span, not just losing people, but lives changes and those effects on you.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

My longstanding practice involves exploring how our thoughts, feelings, actions and behaviors effect each other every day. In our work we identify thinking errors that can harm us in our work to resolve conflicts in our relations and within self esteem challenges. I am also certified in Brene' Brown's work which involves exploring our thought processes and how they can hinder us.

  • Gottman Method External link

I am Gottman level one trained clinician. This work can be done individually or in couples work. The content is also applicable to new families with new or additional children in helping the parents communicate in a healthy and effect ways during this time of change and transition in their lives. This can also be applied in grief and loss work.

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy External link

Our work can be centered on identifying and working towards resolution on a current or persistent issue that is interfering with your current life healthy balance. Sometimes this may lead to deeper unpacking of issues but, initially it is about problem solving and stability.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Women's Issues External link

I work with women at all stages in their lives. I have particular training and background with perinatal mental health challenges including infertility, infant loss, new parents, new identities and mom and parenting challenges as well as those in the perimenopause arch. I have been working with the Baby Blues Connection and Brief Encounters organization for over 10 years and work with clients individually, a couples and in groups.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Self Esteem encompasses so many areas of our lives...communication, relating, making plans/goals in our close relationships and in our communities of work, family and play. I am certified in Brene' Brown's curriculum of Shame Resilience to help us sort out the details and live our fuller and happier life.

  • Loss or Grief External link

We all experience loss in our lives whether it is the loss of an influential person, job or experience. We even experience loss and grief with 'good' things happen, we move, have the birth or adoption of a child, get a new job, etc. We often need help and compassion to sort through the various feelings and process the steps to help us move into places of acceptance of our new situations.
