My Ideal Client

The clients I work with are typically coping with the effects of trauma or learning to cope with new life changes. My clients are typically part of the LGBTQIA+ community or allies and neurodivergent. They are people struggling with CPTSD, PTSD, anxiety, and/or depression.

My Approach to Helping

I view counseling as a journey of facilitated self-exploration to increase the level of self-awareness and understanding that helps the individual better navigate the challenges they are facing. I work from a client centered perspective, adapting to each individual's needs. I believe every person is different, and therefore, my modalities should adapt to the needs of the individual. I act as a facilitator for the individual to discover their own strengths, modes of coping, spiritual belief systems, and creativity. Ultimately, it is my job to help individuals identify, develop, and mobilize their resources to successfully find ways to meet their own needs. I also aim to help my clients cope with and process past trauma.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I strive to create a safe and compassionate environment for my clients. I believe that if we gain insight into our behaviors and change the way that we talk to ourselves, we can change our lives. I believe everyone has unique strengths that when realized, can create healing and lasting change. Life is hard and our experiences over time create ways of coping that helped us survive when we needed it but now now no longer serve us. I'm a therapist who has done (and continue to do) my own therapy to overcome past challenges. I am oriented towards a social justice lens in counseling, and utilize intersectional feminist theories.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Attachment Theory External link

I help clients understand how early relationships shape their current patterns. Through exploration and validation, we address attachment wounds and develop healthier coping strategies. By fostering secure relationships and promoting self-awareness, clients experience healing and growth.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

I am IFS informed and incorporate it into my practice. This therapeutic approach promotes self-discovery and inner harmony, empowering clients to integrate fragmented aspects of their psyche and cultivate greater emotional resilience and well-being through their journey of healing.

  • Feminist External link

I strive to challenge oppressive systems and promote social justice while honoring clients' unique strengths, resilience, and agency. By acknowledging power dynamics, exploring intersectionality, challenging gender norms and stereotypes, promoting empowerment and agency, and addressing trauma and oppression, I aim to create a space where clients feel validated, empowered, and supported in their healing journey.

  • Narrative  External link

I use narrative therapy to help clients reclaim authorship of their lives, liberate themselves from constraining narratives, and cultivate new stories that reflect their values, strengths, and aspirations. Together, we co-create a narrative of healing, growth, and empowerment that honors the client's journey and potential for change.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I use CBT from a trauma informed perspective. I prioritize safety, empowerment, and collaboration. I validate the client's experiences and reactions, emphasizing resilience and coping strategies. We work together to explore trauma-related thoughts and behaviors, without pathologizing the client. Techniques focus on building skills for managing distress and promoting self-compassion, while pacing therapy sensitively to avoid retraumatization.
