My Ideal Client

I work with a range of issues including trauma/PTSD/CPTSD, anxiety, life transitions, identity issues, relationship concerns and more. Additionally, I especially enjoy working with people experiencing climate-change related concerns. If you have anxiety about the future of our planet, or are dealing with trauma and grief due to climate-related disasters, you are not alone. I hope to help you navigate earth's uncertain present and future while also finding meaning in your individual life

My Approach to Helping

I believe that all humans have the right and ability to reach their fullest potential and embrace wellbeing. To remove blocks to wellbeing, I practice an integrated approach to counseling. I incorporate cognitive therapy, psychodynamic theories, and existential therapy from a humanistic base. Practicing from a humanistic base maintains a client-centered focus, allowing clients to determine their own goals and be experts on their own lives. My philosophy also incorporates themes of liberation, feminism, and client wholeness. Clients are encouraged to explore their relationship with these themes on an interpersonal and intrapersonal level. I graduated from PSU with a Masters in Counseling in 2023 where I engaged in independent study in ecotherapy and nature therapy, including healing from climate change-related mental health issues.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I came to counseling after many years of farming and managing restaurants in and around Portland. Eventually, I wanted my skills and passion for helping, and connecting with, others to make a deeper impact. When I learned about ecotherapy, I realized I could combine my interest in helping people with my love of nature and my belief in the power of the human-nature connection. I have spent many years doing my own therapeutic work and believe strongly that this work can help us improve our relationship with ourselves and others. I use she/her pronouns and identify as a white, straight, cis-woman. I am currently able-bodied. I am a Pacific Northwest local and love this region for its trees, water, birds, and swimming season. I enjoy biking, hiking, camping and backpacking, birding, drinking coffee in the sun, reading novels, and cuddling/harassing my cat.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EcoTherapy External link

We are impacted by the environment and the environment is impacted by us. We often do not have access to our roles as integrated parts of the natural world. Ecotherapy can be as simple as bringing nature metaphor to the therapy room, or can involve natural objects, or even conducting therapy in natural spaces.

  • Existential External link

Existential work explores innately human questions regarding death, anxiety, and congruence. Existential work can help you explore how to make choices that are authentic to you and who you want to be in the world and in relationships. This work is done relationally, in the therapy room, and I promise to show up authentically for you in our work together.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

Cognitive work is an important part of our daily lives. We use our brains to make decisions, plan, and conceptualize our feelings about our surroundings. While cognitive work does not always access the root of our questions, it can be extremely useful for navigating our daily lives.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • PTSD External link

Trauma is a distressing and unwanted situation in which we feel ourselves and/or loves ones to be in danger. This can be chronic such as enduring abuse, or acute such as a car or bike accident. Either way, it can have lasting impacts on our mental health, our ability to function, and our relationships with others. I work with folks who have experienced trauma in order to make sense of the experience, integrate it into your understanding of your life, and find ongoing balance and acceptance.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Self doubt and questioning are rooted in many of us, and indeed, are part of a functioning capitalist system. What happens when we believe we are enough as we are? I will help you confront this question and explore the roots of esteem issues.

  • Adjustment Disorder External link

Adjusting to life's changes is often a stumbling block. Life adjustments can be disorienting at best, and emotionally taxing or even painful at worst. I support my clients as they navigate life's turbulence by offering them new ways of approaching circumstances, while at the same time, helping them understand themselves in a deeper and more nuanced way.

  • Women's Issues External link

Women's issues are everyone's issues, however being a woman, however you define that for yourself, bring unique challenges in American society. I can help you navigate some of the issues women face in our modern world while honoring your unique identities and cultural histories. Issues including aging, beauty and size standards, pain related to the menstrual cycle, menopause, and fitting in as a trans woman are all on the table
