My Ideal Client

Are you held down by your past and notice a sense of feeling trapped? Does it feel like you are stuck in fear, repetition and a sense of sameness? Do you struggle with what was done to or against you and notice that it sits around your shoulders like a weight? I offer deeply relational, systemically-informed counseling for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ community, or anyone who simply feels like an outsider. I primarily see Individuals (16+, elders welcome), Couples, poly folks, and adult-child and parents

My Background and Approach

I am a proud trauma survivor and CSA survivor. Living with the effects of trauma on a daily basis is hard, and it can feel like you're the only person in the world who knows what you're going through. Know that you're not alone, and that I'm here to walk alongside you and help you to build a life that's worth cultivating. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and a deep commitment to creating a safe, non-judgmental space. I strongly believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and work diligently to build trust and rapport with each of my clients. I want you to feel seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are. You're allowed to curse, cry, yell, and do what you need in the space we create to truly embody and express yourself.

My Approach to Helping

As a system therapist, you can expect that I will ask questions about what you are doing outside of yourself to create a full life as we explore what is currently holding you back. What does your support network look like, how do you create joy, do you have hobbies, if spirituality of any kind is a factor in your life, are you doing enough? How can we make more opportunities to connect and build community? How does your privilege, lack of privilege, existence in a white-dominated society impact you? What in the larger world could be impacting your ability to thrive and build? My current modalities that I use first and foremost are IFS and EMDR as well as Narrative and somatic therapies. As many of my clients experience trauma I find that these are models that are particular useful for healing and that connecting with the body through exercises, yoga, taking walks, guided visualizations, can be particularly helpful and have been a large part of my personal journey.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EMDR External link

I am EMDR trained with goals of advanced EMDR training in the near future.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

I am a Level 1 IFS practicioner who loves to use the work with all forms of trauma, especially intergenerational and historical trauma. Parts work can be a powerful tool in the toolkit for helping to unstick difficult feelings

  • Couples Counseling External link

My grad education involved extensive work with couples which I have carried into my personal practice. Much of my caseload features couples, ENM, and polyamorous individuals as well as monogamous couples. Building trust and intimacy, navigating communication struggles, and entering the world of nonmonogamy in particular are areas that I find myself navigating with couples often.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • PTSD External link

Much of my work with clients is around treating the effects of trauma. I conducted an independent study during my graduate program on trauma and have concentrated on the treatment of trauma throughout my time in school and have continued to work with this population through internship and in my time outside of school.

  • Historical Trauma External link

I find that many of my clients come to the work with a history of trauma that may even go back generationally to impact them.

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

I love working with members of my own community! Some examples of what we can speak of are, coming out late in life, coming out in stages, simply existing, socializing, and becoming a LGBTQ adult, navigating being a queer teen, the possibilities are endless.

  • Cultural and Systemic Oppression External link
  • Polyamorous and Open Relationships External link

I have worked with a variety of polyamorous individuals relationally and individually on issues around overperforming and underperforming at home, stress , lack of intimacy, and rebuilding trust and strenghtening bonds after ruptures.
