My Ideal Client

At Portland Behavioral Therapy (PBT) I provide therapy for individual adults and children ages 10 and older. My specialty is treating anxiety disorders, and obsessive compulsive disorder. I can also help people dealing with situational stressors and life transitions. As a client of PBT, we will work together to help you feel empowered as you increasingly engage in the things that matter to you! Please check out my website linked under "Contact."

My Approach to Helping

When it comes to engaging in therapy, it is important to know what type of treatment your therapist uses and determine if it is the best fit for you. I utilize concepts and approaches of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These behavioral therapies have robust research designating them as “evidence-based treatments,” for anxiety and depressive disorders. Using these theoretical frameworks and related interventions, like mindfulness and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), I help my clients learn new skills to more effectively overcome mental health challenges and situational stressors. My goal is to support my clients as they re-shape their thinking and behaviors so that they can more consistently engage with life in ways that reflect their values. Therapy will include evaluating problematic avoidances, making plans to challenge unhelpful thinking, and practice new behavioral patterns, and exploring personal values.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As I have settled into my clinical and professional identity, I continue to strive to provide compassionate, culturally responsive evidence-based behavioral therapy. I seek out up-to-date research and training in my commitment to the ethics and principles as a licensed clinical psychologist. This includes additional training and supervision to uphold values of social justice in my personal and professional life. In treatment, I use a trauma-informed approach to consider how systems of inequity and oppression impact those in marginalized groups including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ persons. I seek to create a space where personal and cultural identities are thoughtfully and deliberately brought into the room as an essential consideration in treatment.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

My specialty is treating anxiety disorders including social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, specific phobias, and panic disorder. Treatment includes concepts and approaches of CBT and ACT. I generally utilize Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) as an effective evidenced-based intervention to help my clients increase their tolerance for discomfort as they work towards decreasing their avoidance so they can engage in the things that matter most.

  • OCD External link

I am trained in Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), which is considered the gold standard for treating OCD. I integrate the theories of ACT to help clients make the tough and brave choice to challenge their fears and expand their world.
