My Ideal Client

Youth are constantly experiencing new situations, emotions, and expectations. Figuring out how to handle these changes can be hard for pre-teens, teens, and their caregivers. It is often confusing to identify which emotions are common in each stage of growing up when compared to feelings and experiences that more closely align with anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. I work with youth ages 11-17, and am passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ identities.

My Approach to Helping

My practice style is relational and person-centered, and services primarily target depression and anxiety. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify patterns in thoughts, feelings, and actions so that we can collaboratively work towards positive change. Creating a toolkit of knowledge empowers youth to manage what is within their control, and build up inner resources to interact with what is outside their control. I emphasize safe and secure connection, along with youth empowerment.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that all people are deserving of dignity and worth, just by being human. I believe that there is wisdom in the voices of youth! Recognizing the challenges of identity development, finding a place in the world, and building confidence, I honor the unique angst AND joy experienced during adolescence. As a person holding an LGBTQ+ identity, I understand the specific concerns relevant to youth within this community. I have experience working in a middle school setting, providing phone-based crisis interventions for youth (and all ages) at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and volunteering with Portland-area organizations in support of LGBTQ+ wellbeing.
