My Ideal Client

My clients enter into a therapeutic relationship with me often because they never learned how to listen to or love themselves. Many of my clients live with a harsh/distracting internal critic that pulls them out of the present moment and into chronic experiences of suffering. They might even live with or love others who echo or add new fodder to this already cruel inner-voice. My clients begin therapy because they want more out of relationships - with themselves, with others and with the world.

My Approach to Helping

I offer the kind of therapeutic relationship that does not seek to pathologize your behavior, but instead, helps you slow down with your thoughts, feelings and experiences, compassionately. Through the help of relational-cultural therapy, we examine the quality of your relationships, both past and present, and determine how these relationships may impact the way you orient to yourself, others, and the world. Polyvagal theory encourages us to explore what feels safe, and unsafe, to your body, and how your body communicates messages of ease and dis-ease on a moment-to-moment basis. Lastly, Buddhist psychology inspires us to bring moments of suffering to the surface and practice building the tolerance needed to examine them gently. We consider how attachment, aversion, impermanence, and many other Buddhist concepts might play a role in your suffering, and how you might be able to meet them with more equanimity today.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a mixed-race, white and Mexican Indigenous demi-woman. I am polyamorous, pansexual, and am dedicated to providing gender-affirming care. As a white-passing woman raised in the United States, I understand the responsibility I have to provide anti-racist care and remove all characteristics of white supremacy from my formal education and counseling work. I am also dedicated to providing affordable mental health counseling in my effort to combat our economic system's ability to monetize relational safety, compassion and mental health care.

Relational-cultural therapy (RCT) highlights the importance of building mutually empathetic, authentic and empowering relationships with others. RCT prioritizes the concept of interconnectedness over the Western-European goal of hyper-individualism and self-sufficiency.
