My Approach to Helping

My primary theoretical perspective for counseling is Attachment Theory, which focuses on building healthy attachments with other people. Attachment theory helps us to understand how our family or peer dynamics contribute to feeling unhappy and how we can rebuild healthy dynamics in order to heal and grow. However, I see value in all therapeutic approaches to counseling, most notably Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which I see as essential in learning healthy coping skills, Psychodynamics, which helps us learn about how we are shaped by our past experiences and encourages us to express emotion openly, and Karen Horney’s theory of neurosis, which explains how we change unhelpful values and beliefs by becoming aware of them and engaging in corrective relationships.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Therapy is my passion because I believe that expressing your feelings and thoughts allows you to know and love yourself. I believe that it is a miracle that I can help someone feel happier through dialogue and I would be grateful for the opportunity to talk with you. I am strong believer in the importance of diversity, social justice, environmental justice, and representation of all cultural groups in our society. I am inclusive of all people from all walks of life and will strive to understand your differences as well as similarities to me and connect with you.
