My Approach to Helping

My hope is to work with individuals in transition who want to see results, be inspired to go further distances and reclaim their internal joy. Many of my clients come to me feeling professionally stuck or too anxious to address and tease out what it is that they truly want more of in their lives. My approach is intuitive and insightful. I listen intently and fully and appreciate humor and candor in our sessions. My approach is essentially eclectic. I honor that we as humans are unique individuals that may benefit greatly from a myriad of therapeutic supports. I often incorporate elements of CBT, solution-focused therapy and a life coaching approach into my practice. I have found the outdoor beauty of the Pacific Northwest to be incredibly healing. This inspiration has led me to offer the opportunity to conduct our sessions in the outdoors or in the office.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have a MSW from the University of Minnesota and am licensed to practice clinical social work in Oregon. I have worked in a myriad of treatment facilities including residential, inpatient and outpatient centers. As a practitioner in private practice, many of my clients are challenged by life transitions, changes in their family dynamic or those who are generally feeling stuck where they are currently at in their lives. I believe that the therapeutic process is a collaborative one and I find this to be one of the most fulfilling elements of our authentic work together.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Eclectic External link

Being the most flexible and multifaceted approach in my practice, this allows for the use of a myriad of approaches to address my clients most current pressing needs. In combination with other therapeutic modalities, it allows for the client to have more autonomy and to build upon what I call 'your very own toolbox of skills' to derive from when they are out in the world.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

CBT is focused on helping clients deal with a very specific problem. In my experience, I have helped clients work through issues with their anxiety, anger, depression, emotional roadblocks relating to career transitions or relationship issues.

  • Coaching External link

Much of my therapeutic approach is derived from the life coaching perspective. We return to our common connections by loving, honoring and valuing ourselves and others. Wonder, curiosity and inquiry are the source of all learning. I believe awareness is the precursor to choice. Finally, contribution based on purpose generates true fulfillment and that connection is the wellspring of creativity

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Divorce External link

Much of my work has been supporting individuals who are currently in the throes of a change in their family dynamic. Helping a client balance the challenges of being a single parent and reestablishing a relationship with former spouse and navigating supporting their children after divorce are aspects that I feel where the life coaching perspective can be greatly beneficial.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Self-esteem issues may arise in all of us at some point in our lives. Many of us come into counseling with negative schemas that we struggle to let go of. These are thoughts we have been battling for years sometimes and my hope is to support my clients to delve deep into these and access their inner strength so that they can tap into their internal joy and be inspired to attain cadence.

  • Anxiety External link

As we embark on our path, things come up and get in the way of our ability to tap into our internal joy. I help clients in managing their anxiety through elements of CBT, mindfulness, feasible goal setting and accountability.

  • Depression External link

Many of us experience periods in our lives where we feel stuck and I truly honor those individuals who are willing to come forward and say that they are tired of the daily struggles and that they need help. Through a collaborative approach, my hope is to guide clients into accessing the necessary tools that reside inside of them as a way to propel them forward.
