My Ideal Client

Do you often feel misunderstood and hurt? Do you feel as though your emotions are controlling you and you don’t know what to do to change that? Does it leave you feeling anxious and depressed? I know what that feels like and I can help with that.

My Approach to Helping

I believe that people are doing the best they can with the information and skills they currently have. I also believe that they can grow and create better lives for themselves with the appropriate support. My approach to helping clients develop the skills to effectively identify, regulate and communicate their emotions, needs and boundaries to others is validating and skills-based. Therapy with me is relational, non-judgmental, body positive, sex positive and LGBTQ+ and poly competent.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I'm a psychologist and certified alcohol and drug counselor. I have a background in research (on behavior change) and loved working in academia for a long time, before transitioning to working in community mental health for a few years. I love being a therapist. I am also a mother and an immigrant with strong progressive values and I bring that to the table as well. I believe that Black Lives Matter and that community action is more powerful than waiting for government to act in our best interest. I bring this perspective to my work.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

I was trained in DBT through the Comprehensive Implementation & Training Initiative and have since received further in depth training in DBT through the DBT Institute. I have worked as a full fidelity DBT therapist for the past two years and continue to be amazed at the effectiveness of DBT. I use DBT skills in my personal life All. The. Time.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

My basic training as a therapist was in CBT and it is the approach I have used the longest. Fact checking, reframing, and creating more helpful narratives about the things happening in our lives, that's all part of my box of tools I want to teach you!

  • EMDR External link

I completed an EMDRIA approved EMDR training in 2023, and have since completed my required supervision hours. I am receiving continuing education regularly. EMDR is a neurological approach that is highly effective for treating not just PTSD, but also helping clients update their unhelpful core beliefs that interfere with their lives today.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Postpartum External link

I have facilitated weekly support groups for Baby Blues Connection for the past three years and have received specialized training in the field of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I also have a personal connection because I, too, struggled with postnatal anxiety after my son was born.
