My Ideal Client

Are you a capable woman who manages numerous responsibilities and supports many people, but recently feels overwhelmed by new challenges? Are irritability and stress becoming more frequent companions? I specialize in assisting women who typically have everything under control but are feeling unsettled. Together, we'll explore your current situation and equip you with effective tools to regain your sense of balance.

My Background and Approach

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Leadership Coach with 20+ years of experience, I specialize in supporting adults to center themselves in their lives. My approach integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and somatic techniques to help clients navigate challenges such as perfectionism, perimenopause, work issues, and life transitions. With a collaborative and client-centered focus, I tailor our work to your unique needs, ensuring we use evidence-based strategies that promote lasting well-being. I believe in creating a supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes. My approach engages your whole self by integrating an understanding of the body’s nervous system, brain science, mindfulness, psychotherapy, depth psychology, and movement. Together, we’ll explore practical solutions that align with your goals, helping you move through life’s transitions with greater ease and confidence.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe the world is a better place when we can fully be ourselves, and therapy is a powerful way to support that process. As a client-centered therapist, I bring a compassionate, down-to-earth, and strategic approach to my work, creating a non-judgmental and strengths-based space. With a social justice perspective, I help clients recognize the impact of oppression and related traumas on their well-being while guiding them toward healing and self-discovery. My journey of learning—through relationships, parenting, and embracing my strengths and vulnerabilities—deepens my understanding of this work. Outside work, I find joy in gardening, discovering new restaurants, and exploring nature. These passions help me stay grounded and continually inspired, much like the work I do in helping others find fulfillment and growth in their lives.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Art Therapy External link

My degree included specialized training in art therapy. No art skill is necessary to try out art therapy. In our sessions, I might use some art therapy if it seems appropriate or suggest some homework. Examples include: making a vision board, drawing your feelings, creating a object that celebrates the loss of a loved one.

  • Expressive Art Therapy External link

I have immersive, graduate-level training in expressive art therapies from Lesley University. In expressive art therapies art, music, movement, and drama therapy are used as tools to understand the client's experience from different perspectives and to create healing. No experience is needed. Examples include: writing a letter to your younger self, using imagery and movement to calm anxiety, creating a "character" for one of your parts, and dialoging with it.

  • Nonviolent Communication External link

Non-violent communication is an excellent tool for improving communication skills, de-escalating people who are activated, and parenting. I have used and taught non-violent communication for 10-plus years. NVC teaches us to get to the underlying issues behind difficult communication in a respectful and connected way.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Women's Issues External link

Much of my experience is related to the empowerment of women. I am particularly interested in women's health transitions such as birth and perimenopause/menopause. I've provided counseling as part of the Sexual Information Center in college and volunteered for Planned Parenthood. I've also worked closely with women professionals and women arts in the areas of career and leadership development providing mentoring, coaching, and therapy for women growing their power and role at work.

  • Alzheimers External link

An Alzheimer's or dementia diagnosis for an individual or for people in their lives can be devastating. Together we can navigate these challenges. Areas we may address include: coping with the initial diagnosis (What does this mean for me?), identifying how to get the most out of your next years (What matters most to me?), planning for changes and end of life considerations (What needs to be in place as the disease progresses to ease the journey?).
