My Background and Approach

I enjoy supporting individuals with sleep disturbances and insomnia, primarily drawing from CBT for Insomnia, Interpersonal Neurobiology and DBT. My experience also includes working with trauma, anxiety and depression, in cross-cultural and community systems. I strive to be LGBTQ+ affirming and intentional about cultivating a perspective of cultural/racial humility and curiosity. I am a member of the Society for Behavioral Sleep Medicine. I have completed EMDRIA approved EMDR basic training Levels 1-3 through the Parnell Institute.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

CBT for Insomnia is a short-term, evidenced-based treatment option. CBT for Insomnia works to address difficulty initiating and/or maintaining sleep and/or nonrestorative sleep that results in difficulty functioning in daily life. It may be helpful for sleep disturbance as a result of Stress, Trauma, Anxiety, or Depression. It can be a supplemental treatment option for sleep disturbance related to Chronic Pain, TBI, Circadian Rhythm Disorder and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based approach that teaches four different sets of skills. The core DBT skills are Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness. I offer DBT skills support in group settings or individual DBT skills planning sessions (5-10 sessions) to manage a specific target behavior or symptom. Clients are usually established with a primary therapist while participating in either DBT group or DBT skills planning.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Insomnia External link

Insomnia and sleep disturbance, including difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep, waking early and non-restorative sleep can be both distressing and get in the way of life. Sleep challenges can also exacerbate stress, trauma, anxiety, and depression, as well as be related to chronic pain, TBI, circadian rhythm disorders, movement-related sleep disorders (i.e. 'restless leg') and sleep apnea.
