Sometimes we need short-term help for specific challenges that are occurring in our lives. Identifying personal strengths to promote problem solving and developing goals focusing on resolving the issue at hand can provide clients a short-term intervention with long lasting benefits. I have used this approach with children, adolescents, and adults who desire future-focused orientation as opposed to delving deeply into the origin of problems.
I have experience using somatic therapy with children, adolescents, and adults who find that traditional “talk therapy” alone does not fit their personal needs. Emotions, particularly strong emotions rooted in trauma, can become “stuck” in the body and lead to challenges in distress tolerance and emotional regulation. This modality focuses on how emotions appear in the body and using mind-body exercises such as breath work, grounding, and meditation to support individuals in increasing nervous
For some, building or increasing a connection with the natural world can provide significant benefits in managing depression, anxiety, PTSD, and overall emotional regulation. I have extensive history working with individuals who experience PTSD symptoms and every person processes trauma differently. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with PTSD and strongly believe that a key facet of healing from trauma includes having a safe, nonjudgmental space to process in ways that promote empowerment and nervous system regulation.
Individuals may struggle with anger management for a variety of reasons and often feel as though their behaviors are outside of their control. By providing space for validation and reflection, as well as practices to increase emotional awareness and frustration tolerance strategies, we can work to increase feelings of self-control and strengthen social relationships.
Many children and adolescents experience difficulties in emotional regulation, self-esteem, peer and family relationships, and academic performance. Social emotional learning was disrupted due to social isolation and pandemic policies and many of our children are still trying to catch up. Developing emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness skills can provide support in helping young people reach their fullest potential.
Whether you were diagnosed as a child or later in life as an adult, ADHD can be difficult to manage and can impact personal, professional, and academic performance. I believe that developing individualized approaches based on personal experiences and challenges can promote sustainable change and increase functioning in all areas.
The impacts of abuse are often far-reaching and can impact major areas of human development. Experiencing abuse can decrease self-esteem and create negative perceptions of ourselves and the world around us. Creating space for individuals to empower themselves and develop skills around nervous system regulation can be crucial to healing and growth.
