My Ideal Client

If you're struggling with negative beliefs or intense feelings about yourself--or your body--you know it's not easy to simply flip a switch and think or feel differently. In fact, those thoughts and feelings are your inner system's attempts to try to cope. The thing is, they don't really work that well, do they? I enjoy helping folks explore the root causes of those responses and access the internal resources they need for healing, so they can live more freely.

My Approach to Helping

My approach is warm, collaborative and transparent. I’m happy to share why we do what we’re doing in therapy and explore what I can offer from my skillset that resonates with you. I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches to help folks embrace the present moment, connect to what’s going on in their bodies and work with their emotions. I also help clients explore the impact of trauma (big or small) on their current functioning and work towards feeling more regulated and self-compassionate. I’m trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which can help alter one’s relationship to negative beliefs and distressful memories. I’m also a Health at Every Size (HAES)-aligned therapist. HAES is a weight-neutral approach to care that recognizes the harm of the thin-centric model.

My Values as a Therapist

My utmost goal is to create a safe space for your healing. If you've been harmed by the dominant culture we live in or by your family of origin (even inadvertently), I believe your growth requires a reparative experience of feeling that your emotions are valid and who you are matters. I strive to do that always by meeting you with empathy and respect. While I am not a member of the LQBTQIA2S+ or BIPOC communities, I am dedicated to cultural competency education and understanding the dynamics of privilege and oppression in all their forms and the impact that has on one’s mental health.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • PTSD External link

I'm trained in EMDR for reprocessing traumatic memories. I also incorporate parts work from Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and Janina Fisher's model of structural dissociation. These approaches can help us appreciate how your system is trying to keep you safe and create reparative experiences so you can feel safe when you actually are. This can also be applied to attachment trauma (abuse, neglect or invalidation) experienced early in life.

  • Eating Disorder External link

I have many years experience working with disordered eating at the outpatient level and previously in day treatment. My approach includes practical strategies for regulating eating and accessing support, as well as (perhaps more importantly) exploring what drives your eating disorder, working with the related emotions and building motivation for recovery.

  • Body Image Issues External link

I'm deeply committed to a Health At Every Size framework at my practice. Our body image work may include challenging toxic patriarchal norms, exploring the impact of living under them and unburdening they legacy of shame you've been handed. Your body is deserving of love, dignity and respect.

  • Anxiety External link

I can help you build strategies to manage anxiety by increasing mindfulness practices and tending to your physical experience of symptoms. I can also help you explore the function of your anxiety and find more affective, healthier ways to meet those needs.

  • Depression External link

If we think of depression as a messenger from you system that something isn't working, I can help you explore what exactly that is. From there, we can build a plan to move towards what will work. If this points to past experiences that still influence your thoughts and feelings, we can work on healing those. You deserve to feel better.
