My Ideal Client

I enjoy clients who are interested in self knowledge and growth. Those that take responsibility for their wellness and care about the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. I enjoy working with individuals 19 and older struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, eating disorders, parenting, prenatal/postpartum and life transitions.

My Approach to Helping

I specialize in the treatment of Trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, relationship issues, parenting and life transitions. I see individual adults in my practice. I primarily utilize psychodynamic, attachment-based, Jungian, TIST (Janina Fishers parts work model), IFS, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR therapy practices. Check out my website for more information at www. kellymurraytherapy.com

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe inner work is social justice work. The more we know about ourselves the more we can have a conscious relationship with it, heal it and not enact it out in the world.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EMDR External link

    Attachment and somatic based EMDR.

  • Sensorimotor External link

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy draws from somatic therapies, neuroscience, attachment theory, and cognitive approaches, as well as from the Hakomi Method. It is successful in treating trauma, attachment issues, limiting beliefs/cognitions, patterned intense emotion and in developing/restoring parts of the personality.

  • Psychodynamic  External link

An approach that helps people understand how their past experiences and unconscious mind influence their current feelings and behaviors. I am influenced by jungian thought and have studied with Donald Kaslched PhD for over 4 years.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

An approach to psychotherapy that identifies and addresses sub-personalities/families within each person’s mental system. These sub-personalities consist of wounded parts and painful emotions such as anger and shame, and parts that try to control and protect the person from the pain of the wounded parts. The sub-personalities are often in conflict with each other and with one’s core Self. I also utilize Janina Fisher's Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment model that is influenced by IFS.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

In therapy, we may explore issues within your romantic/significant other relationship, friendships, family relationships, relationships with colleagues and bosses and/or childrearing. I often employ the lens of attachment theory when working with relationships.

  • Eating Disorder External link

I treat Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, Anorexia, Disordered Eating, Overexercise and body image related issues. I often refer to a nutritionist and work in conjunction to create and meet treatment goals. I operate under the Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating paradigms. I recieved my Eating Disorders Certification through Lewis & Clark College in 2008.

  • PTSD External link

I specialize working with early childhood trauma/developmental trauma, attachment trauma and single incident trauma. I use the TIST model by Janina Fisher and have completed her level 1 and 2 training, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (level 1 and 2 Trained) EMDR, and Jungian approaches to treat PTSD.

  • Anxiety External link

I work with anxiety using Jungian, IFS, and sensorimotor approaches.

  • Depression External link

I seek to understand the wisdom of depression and the message it holds. When depression presents itself, there can often be subtle or not so subtle obstacles to confront. This could include a crisis of meaning, frequent negative beliefs, low quality relationships, a tendency to not want or need, and or difficulty being playful and/or creative. I use jungian, TIST/IFS and Sensorimotor as treatment methods.
