My Ideal Client

I enjoy and have experience working with people of all backgrounds: individuals, couples, children, and families. I'm especially passionate about working with queer and neurodivergent folx, and anyone struggling with grief or anxiety about our changing world and climate. Given that the strength of the therapeutic relationship is the #1 predictor of success in therapy, it's important that you see me as someone who can really "tune in" with you!

My Background and Approach

I believe that the healing process starts with deepening insight into how we connect with other beings and with ourselves, honoring all the emotions that move us—grief, sadness, anger, joy—as valuable signposts toward how we make meaning in the world. In therapy, we can work together to untangle complex thoughts and feelings with compassion and curiosity. I primarily draw from Narrative and Internal Family Systems (parts work) therapies, with sprinkles of Somatic work to attend to the mind-body connection. I also offer Ecotherapy, which involves more focused attention on (re)connecting with the natural world as a key facet of healing. These sessions take place primarily outdoors; either in our on-site garden, around the firepit, walking through the neighborhood, or even in nearby parks and forest trails. Interested? Let's consult and see if my Ecotherapy offerings are a good fit for you :)

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe our stories are shaped by the systems we are a part of: our families, social circles, political spheres, and ecosystems. Knowing that these systems interact with each of us differently, socio-cultural sensitivity is fundamental to my practice. I aim to hold an affirming and uplifting space for those with LGBTQIIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, and other socially marginalized identities. I especially gravitate toward work with my fellow neurodivergent and queer folx. I believe that internalized stories related to these identities can form unique complex traumas. I aim to unravel these norms and nurture a more liberated and affirmed sense of self. Connecting with the body and with nature are also key facets of my personal approach to healing & to my work as a therapist. But I know these connections don't come easily to everyone! We'll work with your current level of comfort at all levels. Above all, I believe you are the expert in your own healing.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EcoTherapy External link

I completed a certificate program in Ecopsychology & Ecotherapies at Lewis & Clark Graduate School, including coursework in ethical and safety considerations unique to this approach. I have 2 years experience employing Ecotherapy interventions in my work as a therapist. What this looks like depends entirely on your comfort level, but might include exploring your relationship to your plants and pets; mindfulness-based activities outdoors; or simply taking walks outside while we talk!

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

With a background in research and training in this evidence-based approach, I'll help you get to know all the parts of yourself that work hard to help you, but might not get along so well! Just like when we say "a part of me wants X, but another part wants Y", conflict between the parts of ourselves often keeps us locked in frustrating (or at times even harmful) patterns. By building curiosity and compassion toward your parts and their roles, we can help them coexist more peacefully within.
