My Ideal Client

I especially enjoy working with folks who are motivated to identify and release old patterns that are no longer serving them well. Changing unhelpful behaviors can be hard, but it is so rewarding. Together, we will leverage insight and self-compassion to find healthier, more sustainable ways to reach your goals. It can be hard to set aside time and resources for self-care, but you are worth it! Whenever you are ready to reach out, I would love to meet you.

My Approach to Helping

I strive for a balance of therapeutic connection, support, reflection, and skill-building, but the amount of each is flexible depending on client needs and preferences. I draw heavily from a cognitive-behavioral framework with other evidence-based techniques woven in as appropriate. My approach is warm, responsive, and compassionate. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. My highest priority is helping you to reach the things that matter most to you, whatever they may be. For some, that may be a tangible goal or completed task; for others it's increased feelings of safety, clarity, or empowerment. I pride myself on being flexible and responsive to meet my client's unique needs.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I completed my Master of Social Work degree in 2004 with a concentration in Sexual Health Promotion and Advocacy. I obtained my clinical license in 2007 and continued the work I was already doing with a highly diverse client base in St. Louis, Missouri. I have extensive experience working with people living with or affected by HIV and AIDS. I also have many years of experience helping teens and adults in all stages of family-building including infertility, pregnancy, decisions around abortion and adoption, and early parenting. I consider it a privilege to provide letters of support for gender-affirming medical care and third-party reproductive technologies. I strive to create an affirming environment for ALL people regardless of body size and ability, racial identity, gender identity, spiritual beliefs, relationship status, and sexual behavior.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Pregnancy (Prenatal Mental Health) External link

Pregnancy is a time of great excitement and possibility, but it is also physically and emotionally demanding and can be stressful or frightening, particularly for those with a history of trauma. I am passionate about helping individuals* experience all stages of pregnancy with as much choice and empowerment as possible. (*Not all who are pregnant identify as women; I celebrate and affirm all identities.)

  • Infertility External link

The experience of infertility may be the hardest thing an individual or couple has ever faced. I have a deep understanding of the toll it can take on a person's energy, mood, relationships, sense of worth, finances, and more. I can help you reclaim a sense of balance and strength so that you can continue working hard toward your dream of building your family.

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

I have 20+ years of experience living, working and volunteering within the queer community. I am familiar with many of the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, and I also understand that your LGBTQ+ identity may have nothing at all to do with why you are seeking therapy. Either way, you and your relationships will be seen, valued and respected without exception.

  • Gender Identity External link

I am deeply sensitive to the unrelenting challenges faced by those who have been assigned a gender that conflicts with their lived experience. I consider it a privilege to support clients in resolving this dissonance to whatever extent they choose, from explorations of identity and experiences through social and medical transitions.

  • PTSD External link

Past trauma has a way of sneaking up on us, sometimes in ways we expect and sometimes seemingly out of nowhere. It can be disorienting and frightening both to us and our loved ones. You do not have to be held hostage by your past experiences. I can help you regain a sense of safety and empowerment that will have a positive impact on all areas of your life.
