My Ideal Client

I enjoy working with clients with a variety of concerns. I love aiding in clients building awareness of who they are, have the ability to self-validate, utilize tools to ground and self-sooth, and have a better relationship with themselves which will benefit relating to others. I also focus on being trauma-informed and culturally competent with each unique client. I

My Background and Approach

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology (2015) and I hold a Master's degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family counseling (2020), both from Portland State University. I have completed trainings that include risk assessment and mandated reporting, implicit bias, a 40-hour Domestic Violence training, and an Internal Family Systems (IFS) Circle Course training (2023). I have a passion for body positivity and body neutrality to combat the negative and detrimental affects of diet culture. I have knowledge , passion, and experience working with survivors of domestic violence and understand the complex nuances to that experience. As a neurodivergent clinician, I have knowledge and personal experience of ADHD and work as an ADHD teen coach as well.

My Values as a Therapist

I personally strive to be a lifelong learner and continue to grow my cultural competence as a counselor so that I may be better informed of the diverse clientele and their experiences that I hope to see and work with. As someone who holds several privileged identities, I will continue to be aware of and acknowledge the privileges that come with having those identities and how it will impact my work and future clients moving forward. I also believe strongly that mental health services and counseling should be accessible to all. I will use my privilege and position to advocate for accessibility for all in the need of mental health services and support. I also believe the relationship between client and counselor is the greatest change agent, so I focus and work to build trust and foster comfort for my client throughout the process. I strive to create a safe and comfortable place for my clients and my intentional use of humor adds to that.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

IFS posits that the mind is made up of multiple parts that can take on extreme roles or sub-personalities. Each part has its own perspective and memories and underlying the part is the person’s true Self, or core self. The goal of IFS is to heal wounded parts and achieve mental balance. In IFS, we are not aiming to remove any parts of ourselves that may be destructive; all parts are welcome and deserve to be healed. It is a great, non-pathological approach to mental health.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • ADHD External link

I not only have a diagnosis of ADHD myself, I also work with individuals on managing ADHD symptoms and also normalizing their experiences in a neuro-typical world. I also provide ADHD teen coaching through Portland ADHD coach.

  • Body Image Issues External link

I recognize the prevalence of diet culture that permeates through consumed media. I aim to combat the messages that we all receive about our bodies and the "beauty standards" and facilitate a better relationship with one's body and with food.
