My Ideal Client

I am most passionate about helping people work through complex trauma and PTSD such as adult survivors of child abuse/neglect, veterans and war affected people, immigrants and refugees, BIPOC community members who have experienced racial trauma, survivors of domestic abuse/violence, and people experiencing spiritual emergencies. I am also passionate about working with adults who are needing support with the integration of psychedelic experiences.

My Background and Approach

I am a Professional Counselor Advocate working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2013. My internship was at Alpha Home, an adult addiction treatment center in San Antonio, TX. Since graduating, I have worked as a mental health clinician assisting people who experience frequent hospitalizations due to serious and persistent mental health issues, families with children needing care coordination due to facing multiple issues (academic, emotional, judicial/systemic), as well as providing children and teens with therapy as a school-based mental health clinician. I started my own healing journey from childhood trauma with psychedelics/plant medicines in 2017. Since then, I have been trained by MAPS in MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy and InnerTrek for Psilocybin Facilitation. I have also recently been trained in EMDR and Hypnosis.

My Approach to Helping

I believe that every individual has within them the capacity to heal and grown to become their most authentic selves, however; sometimes a person might face barriers or obstacles that blocks their ability to achieve that. I am passionate about helping people overcome those barriers/obstacles. I provide a person-centered approach using integrative techniques to support each person. What this means is that I believe every person is unique and needs a special approach that is tailored to their needs. The values that I bring to my life and therapy work are empathy, compassion, unconditional positive regard, honesty, and openness/authenticity/transparency. As a survivor of childhood abuse and emotional neglect, I am passionate about helping others on their journey toward healing.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Eclectic External link

As an eclectic therapist, I use techniques from different modalities such as Person-Centered, EMDR, Hypnosis, Narrative Therapy and CBT to provide a uniquely tailored therapeutic approach/experience for each individual.

  • EMDR External link

I was trained by Katy Murray through Francine Shapiro's EMDR Institute. Katy Murray was trained by Francine Shapiro, the creator of EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. EMDR helps people dislodge stuck memories that keep them trapped in the past. I believe that once these memories are dislodged, people can move on to start living their healthier/healthiest lives.

  • Hypnotherapy External link

I was trained in hypnosis by the Oregon Society of Clinical Hypnosis (OSCH). OSCH is a component section of The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), the largest U.S. organization for health and mental health care professionals using clinical hypnosis. I believe that hypnosis allows clients to access parts of their brain/consciousness that can provide insights into beliefs and behaviors, which can subsequently be re-framed or changed by the individual, who is always in control.

  • Narrative  External link

As a trained narrative therapist, I focus on the stories that a person says about themselves and how these stories affect their lives. I help clients explore potential alternative stories about themselves that may be less psychologically damaging/harmful and more psychologically beneficial.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to help my clients learn about the interplay between their feelings, thoughts, and actions/behaviors.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • PTSD External link

As a survivor of years-long childhood abuse/emotional neglect, I have dealt with and worked through the complex aftermath that this causes. I have utilized the Seeking Safety manual which addresses Trauma & Substance Abuse to help clients work through the complex aftermath of trauma.

  • Depression External link

As someone who has experienced chronic depressive episodes in my past, I am familiar with how debilitating it can be. I believe that depression has an emotional source, and when that emotional source has been identified and worked through, the depression can alleviate or be relieved altogether.

  • Anxiety External link

As someone who has experienced generalized anxiety throughout my life, I know how impactful this can be. I believe that anxiety is future-based fear and can be worked through by addressing the core fears that underlie it.

  • Anger Management External link

I believe that issues around anger are mostly about unexpressed communication of needs/issues/concerns. I help people with learning how to identify their emotions as well as how to communicate their needs assertively.

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

As a gay member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have experienced the various issues that can arise from being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, including but not limited to the coming out process, shame, and homophobia/hostility/hatred due to being sexual orientation minority.
