My Ideal Client

I warmly welcome individuals, couples, families, children, and teens seeking support. My clients come to me with a wide array of concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship issues, religious trauma, and the challenges associated with chronic illness or disability. I also work with those navigating ADHD, gender and sexuality, trauma, identity, and career development.

My Approach to Helping

My therapeutic approach is integrative and collaborative, emphasizing connection and compassion. I draw from various modalities, including: *Attachment Theory: examining how interpersonal relationships affect emotional well-being. *Mindfulness: focusing on present-moment awareness. *Relational-Cultural Theory: highlighting the significance of connection in relationships. *Internal Family Systems: aiding individuals in understanding and harmonizing different aspects of themselves. *Art and Play Therapies: fostering expression and healing through creativity. I view counseling as a way to explore the complex ways our bodies and minds adapt to this wild world. Together, we will tune into your experiences and support you as we delve into the core beliefs, values, and narratives that shape your life. Recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach, I am committed to tailoring our process to meet your individual needs and goals on your path to exploration, growth, and healing.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My career journey has taken me through diverse experiences, including landscape design, working with at-risk youth, adults facing memory loss, and individuals undergoing physical rehabilitation. Additionally, my background arts education has shaped my perspective on healing and connection. As a native Oregonian, I have come to appreciate the beauty of soggy hikes and frosty beach walks—because who needs sunshine when you have character, right? I deeply believe in the inherent value of our relationships—with ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities. My intention is to create an authentic, affirming space where you feel seen and valued. I strive to highlight themes of intersectionality and the impact of context and culture, acknowledging how these elements shape our lives. Whether you are facing challenges or seeking personal growth, I am here to walk alongside you.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Art Therapy External link

I have degrees in fine arts and dance, and have worked as an art teacher and certified movement therapist. By encouraging self-expression through various artistic forms, I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their emotions, build confidence, and develop coping skills. This holistic method not only promotes personal growth but also enhances physical awareness and emotional resilience, allowing individuals to connect more deeply with themselves and others.

  • Attachment Theory External link

I have completed extensive training in Attachment Theory, which I apply in my counseling work with individuals and couples. This theory explores how early relationships shape our emotional well-being and influence our interactions throughout life. By helping clients identify their attachment styles—secure, anxious, avoidant, and disorganized—I facilitate awareness of relationship patterns and emotional triggers to foster healthier communication and connection.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

I have completed training in IFS therapy, an approach that allows people to identify and engage with different aspects of themselves, fostering self-compassion and healing. By facilitating dialogue between the core "Self" and various internal parts, IFS promotes integration and emotional balance. This model has been effective in addressing issues like trauma, anxiety, and self-esteem, enhancing personal growth and relationships.

  • Couples Counseling External link

I have completed training in Relational Life Therapy with Terry Real, focusing on enhancing emotional intimacy and communication within relationships. Additionally, I trained in Integrative Sex and Couples Counseling with Tammy Nelson, which addresses the interplay between emotional and physical intimacy. I also utilize principles from Emotionally Focused Couples Counseling (EFT) to help couples reformulate their emotional interactions, along with strategies from Imago Therapy.

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

In previous work as a certified movement therapist, I provided personalized physical therapy to individuals suffering from chronic pain, injuries, and degenerative conditions. As a counselor, I integrate in somatic approaches, helping individuals tune into their bodies, encouraging them to explore and process deeply held emotions that may be contributing to their distress. This holistic approach also enables individuals to reclaim their physical presence and live more fully in their bodies.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

I collaborate with my clients to find the approach that works for them. I may incorporate Relational Cultural Theory to explore the role of relationships in emotional well-being, and Attachment Theory to address patterns formed in early relationships. Additionally, I use Art and Expressive Arts Therapy to facilitate emotional expression and self-discovery. Finally, Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps clients understand and harmonize their inner parts, promoting healing and emotional resilience.

  • Chronic Pain or Illness External link

I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), movement therapy, breathwork, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to create a comprehensive framework for addressing chronic pain. This approach provides clients with the tools they need to empower themselves and improve their quality of life. I draw on my background in movement and physical therapy, as well as my own experiences of chronic conditions.

  • ADHD External link

For children, I use play therapy, fostering expression and understanding in a safe environment, and layer in age appropriate skill building and parent education. With adults, I incorporate mindfulness-based stress reduction, ADHD life coaching, and somatic interventions. In addition to present-focused techniques, I emphasize the importance of exploring historical and contextual factors that may intersect with their ADHD experience, as well as trauma, attachment styles, and anxiety.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I help individuals and partners navigate relational issues, including communication, attachment, and sexuality. I work with clients from diverse relational orientations including monogamy, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, and polyfidelity. I focus on enhancing communication skills, emotional intimacy, and an understanding of relational dynamics, empowering clients to build healthier, more fulfilling relationships based on trust and respect.

  • Spirituality External link

I counsel clients with diverse religious and spiritual beliefs, guiding them through their identity, values, and sense of belonging. My support extends to individuals firmly rooted in their faith, as well as those who are questioning or dealing with religious or spiritual trauma. I aim to create a safe space for exploration and healing, ensuring that each person's unique journey is respected and valued.
