In my view, anxiety is a sign from the nervous system that it could use help feeling more regulated. Somatic approaches and IFS (Internal Family Systems) can tap into how our body communicates with us, and how to tend to the physical and mental sensations of anxiety. I have been trained in Somatic Embodiment and Regulation Strategies, IFS as well as Trauma-Informed CBT that have informed my understanding of anxiety and how best to regulate it.
I have had experience working with life-threatening illnesses, including cancer, for over a decade. From both personal and professional experiences, I have come to believe that tending to the emotional state of patients and caregivers is a crucial part of managing the illness. I have work experience in hospice, palliative care, and other chronic illnesses. I also have as a personal history with serious illness and medical trauma.
I have over a decade of experience working with health crisis, medical trauma, chronic pain and life-threatening illnesses. From both personal and professional experiences, I have come to believe that tending to the emotional state of the human being, and befriending the body are crucial to managing the illness. I have specialized training in somatic therapy, as well as creative approaches to tending to illness and pain.
For over 4 years I have offered 6-week Art Therapy for Grief groups. The groups provide a chance to use creativity to process the death of a significant person. I also offer individual grief counseling. I believe humans are designed to grieve in community, with witnesses and support. In addition, creative approaches to grief can be profoundly helpful when words don't suffice. Workshops for Loss are offered a few times a year also.
