My Ideal Client

My clients are looking to decrease the hold that anxiety has, increase tolerance for emotional discomfort, and fully thrive in their lives. By learning to recognize and acknowledge unwanted thoughts, emotions or behaviors and lean into them through curiosity and compassion, my clients are able to remove the intensity from those thoughts and emotions and take control of their behaviors and live their lives more fully. I work with couples wanting to increase intimacy through better communication

My Background and Approach

I use a non-judgemental, collaborative approach that includes mindfulness, strengths-based skills, brain science and CBT. I work side by side with clients to determine their therapeutic goals and the steps needed to reach those goals. We explore various techniques and tools, many of which can be used right away, to help manage anxiety, build emotional strength and stability, and nurture positive relationships. My goal is to help you to find kindness for the parts of you that are struggling, create understanding around your experience, and practice strategies to work with your emotions so you stay in control of them instead of feeling like they control you.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Through my own practice and research I have found that by understanding our existing coping mechanisms and their role in either supporting or holding us back, we can consciously take what isn't working and create new strategies to put us back in control. With awareness and intention we can change the brain's neural pathways and create healthy, compassionate ways of managing anxiety. The goal isn't to eliminate anxiety but to change our relationship to it and decrease it's power over us. The body is continually sending messages to the brain about how we are feeling about our circumstances and our environment. I believe that by growing the connection between the mind and body we are strengthening our awareness and understanding of our feelings and how they impact our thoughts and overall well-being.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

In addition to being an LPC I am a Certified Clinical Child & Adolescent Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP-CA). I have been working with children and adults for over a decade in treatment centers, schools and private practice on issues such as anxiety and emotion regulation through mindfulness, somatic practices, CBT and IPNB.

  • Self-Harming External link

When uncomfortable emotions flood the nervous system it can feel scary and overwhelming resulting in intense physical sensations or numbness. Non-Suicidal Self Harm is often a faulty skill used to take control of that scary, overwhelming experience. We work together to find healthier methods of control while building tolerance to the discomfort of emotions and stronger connection between the mind and body.
