My Approach to Helping
I offer individual, couple, and family therapy. My style is interactive, cultural, empathic, warm, direct, and intuitive. I share the premise that human behavior occurs within family, social, and cultural contexts. Additionally, I have a multicultural approach that bridges cultures of all kinds allowing for understanding and sensitivity to help clients feel more comfortable being understood and validated in their experience. Finally, I know the importance of understanding how race, gender, social class, sexual orientation, abilities, language, country of origin, and other social identities/locations intersect to maintain systems of power and privilege within couples, families, and communities. With that, I value a therapy that is non-pathologizing, non-blaming, and sees clients as experts in their own lives. So, as your therapist, my motto is to be your co-pilot to help support clients in increasing their self-compassion and self-confidence to achieve the life goals they desire.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have always been interested in relationships & what it takes to make them work. I come from a big family with many siblings and parents from different cultures. So I have grown up with an ongoing urge to learn how to navigate multiple relationships and be a part of two different cultures. Relationships of all kinds can be tricky & source exceptional joy & significant discomfort. Working with families and couples to connect well and find comfort with differences has been rewarding work. I support individuals to learn to have the courage to speak their truth with honesty and compassion. Feelings are complex. Creating understanding for people to create authentic conversations and emotionally healthy relationships can make room for connecting better to find a solution. As a multiracial person of color (Saudi Arabian & Black American), I cherish culture's uniqueness in people's lives. My cultural background has allowed me to be sensitive to cultural diversity & appreciate all cultures.
