My Ideal Client

I am a holistic therapist who loves working with those who are interested in moving deeper into their healing process and exploring their inner landscapes. I find in person therapy is be very powerful, and it is my favorite to provide, but I am happy to offer telehealth as well. Through promoting curiosity and values-driven action, experiencing safe and supportive connection, and practicing wellness techniques, we can work, together, toward building you a more meaningful life.

My Approach to Helping

My practice, Coastal Trails Holistic Counseling, provides integrative therapy to support you on your journey toward growth and wellbeing. To view treatment holistically is to take into account physical, emotional, mental, social, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. I use a combination of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to assist in exploration and integration of thoughts, body sensations, and emotions while also helping you move toward positive change. To learn more about these approaches, see the Techniques and Specialties section below.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe in the restorative power of therapy, nature, spirituality, and creativity. I have lived experience with chronic health issues, grief and loss, and intercultural experiences and relationships which lends me a unique perspective as well as deep compassion and understanding toward the myriad life challenges that each of us face. My personal joys and interests include reading, writing, painting, cooking, and exploring our beautiful, natural world. I also have a sweet tuxedo cat that makes occasional appearances during telehealth sessions. I'd love to get to know you and speak with you further about your personal goals for therapy. Are you interested in navigating big life transitions or current challenges? Exploring new aspects of your identity? Discovering and committing to passions and pursuits? Healing childhood wounds, or changing current relationship dynamics for the better? Feel free to get in touch to schedule a free 20 minute consultation.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Humanistic  External link

Person-Centered/Humanistic Therapy is how I show up to our sessions, always bringing unconditional positive regard, empathy, and personal authenticity.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) External link

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy focuses on reducing feelings of distress through mindfulness techniques, acceptance of what is both in our control and out of our control, and refocusing on the things that are most important to us so that we can live more fulfilling value-driven lives.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

Emotionally Focused Therapy is based on research related to attachment and bonding, focusing on the healing power of meaningful connection, safety in relationship, and vulnerability. Coming from an attachment perspective, I may address what is emotionally happening between the two of us, including tough feelings like disappointment, rejection, or anger. This can help clients practice authenticity and gain insight into relationship dynamics that are occurring outside of the therapy space.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

Parts Work (Internal Family Systems) includes the stance that there is an inherently good, wise, and health-seeking core Self to each person. It says that we are also made up of multiple other parts (inner critic, inner parent, inner perfectionist, etc.) and that these parts get trapped in behaviors and thought patterns from the past that no longer serve us. The goal in Parts Work is to help those parts “take a break” and instead be led by our core wise Self.

  • Narrative  External link

Narrative Therapy examines the myriad stories we carry with us that influence our present day lives. Some of our stories are known, some of them are hidden, and some are waiting for an opportunity to be brought to life. Through Narrative Therapy, I help clients experience their life stories in new ways that are both meaningful and fulfilling. When we are able to bear witness to our stories and discover their complexity through exploration, that is when we have a true opportunity to grow.
