My Ideal Client

I work with individuals and couples who are committed to change, want to be challenged, and are time conscious (life is short). This includes following through with in between session therapeutic assignments and honest communication.

My Approach to Helping

My approach to counseling is based on the belief that we are here to wake up to the fullest expression of ourselves. What we may feel instead is a poignant dissatisfaction with our career, partner, body, or self. I draw from insight-oriented spiritual traditions and contemporary body-mind practices to support you in your quest for meaning, purpose, authenticity, and connection.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My training includes a Master's degree in counseling (PSU), EMDR, post-graduate training in EFT, sex therapy, hypnosis, and other modalities. I am also a writer, book author, and meditation teacher.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Hypnotherapy External link

I use hypnotherapy for many of my clients' problems and have seen amazing results in a short amount of time. For more information visit www.tributariesofjoy.com.

  • Couples Counseling External link

I'm a seasoned, directive and effective couples therapist. I help couples wanting to prepare for marriage, improve communication, heal from betrayal, rekindle romance and deepen sexual connection in long-term relationships, and with many other needs.

  • EMDR External link

I am trained in EMDR (Level 1 & 2) and use EMDR frequently and effectively with clients.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Sexual Problems External link

Sexual expression is a fundamental human need. Intimately connected to our sense of self, sex is an opportunity to ask for what we want for our growth as individuals and partners, to play, to feel alive and creative, and to transcend, if only momentarily, the experience of our mortality.

  • Pregnancy (Prenatal Mental Health) External link

I have over two decades worth experience working with women starting a family. Before becoming a therapist, I've attended births as a doula, taught prenatal yoga and childbirth education. I'm also the author of a book about yoga and childbirth and continue to support women therapeutically during the childbearing years.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

Relationship issues repeatedly surface in the clinical areas I specialize in (pregnancy, parenting, infertility, post-partum adjustment, dating, divorce). I also specialize in issues related to sexuality.

  • Depression External link

Depression sucks. It sucks desire, motivation, agency, energy, joy and vitality, i.e. all the things that make life worth living. It can make life seem pointless, but there is a point to depression, a way to be with it, and a way to be without. I can help you figure out how.

  • Loss or Grief External link

Grief and Loss are frequent 'clients' of mine. Whether they arrive in the wake of losing a loved one, a pregnancy or a child, a relationship or a marriage, an ability or a dream, they are allies in integrating difficult life experiences, and deserve nurturing and attention.
