My Ideal Client

Most people who seek me out are overwhelmed. They may be dealing with life transitions, like separation, divorce, single parenting, empty nesting, or career changes. Sometimes they're doing their best to juggle life's stresses while managing chronic illness or disability—whether that's their own autoimmune condition, their child's autism or ADHD, their partner's sudden stroke, or an aging parent's Alzheimer's. Above all, they want a personal connection to help them move forward.

My Approach to Helping

As a counselor, I offer undivided attention and nonjudgement. You’ll find that I’m warm, approachable, and easy to talk to. I will listen with patience and compassion, using curiosity and thoughtful questions to examine your concerns. If you're open to it, we may use creative activities like metaphor, drawing, writing, visualization, or projection to approach problems in new ways. I will also challenge you to take small, frequent action steps to help you meet the goals you've set for yourself. In our work together I will honor your wholeness and recognize your inherent strengths. This means that—while I will attend to the challenges you describe in session—I will also acknowledge your knowledge, skills, attitudes, wisdom, capabilities, community, & resiliency. You are so much more than your current hardship! Rest assured that you will come away from our time together feeling heard and seen.

Social Justice Issues I Care About

All people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I advocate for the inclusion and basic rights of all marginalized and oppressed populations--both inside the counseling room and in the larger community; however, I'm especially passionate about serving people with chronic illness and disability. As a single mom with a disability, I understand the experience of adjusting to a diagnosis, learning new ways to accommodate limitations, and dealing with disability stigma and discrimination. Getting through a typical day in our culture can feel exhausting and overwhelming. I would be honored to help you address any barriers keeping you from the vibrant, meaningful life you desire.
